    getting started in ionosphere

Posted 12 years 7 months ago
    • Oh man I'm frustrated. I'm new to Joomla but had played with some simpler templates and was able to make things work and now I've started with Ionosphere using a rocketlauncher install. It seems at this point, venturing into the RT world adds another level of complexity to everything you try to do. The tutorials and documentation all seem to be outdated and not relevant to my install (as in gantry doesn't show up in the template manager by itself but I have 3 Ionospheres of varying names). A couple simple things questions for people that might feel bad for me...
-How can i remove the extra social tabs on the side? I want to show fb and twitter but not the other 2 and nulling the url doesn't work - RT just overwrites it again with their info.
-how can i add an image to the built-in slider - the "screencast" is outdated and I can't follow it
-can i change the height of the nav bar to tighten it up?
-can I change the navigation buttons on the slider to just buttons instead of numbers?

RT won't respond via email to even point me to some up to date instruction.

I'm sure this is just a learning curve but it is painful right now especially considering i had some comfort with other simpler templates and now I've paid for this and can't make progress. Sorry - just venting.

      Thanks,
      Jaosn

    • Hi, first off, no technical support is provided via email. This is clear in our support policy and the terms of service for our products. We are working on a more detailed documentation section that will be available in the near future. For now, the tutorials in the forums and on the demo site is what we have available.

Next, Gantry itself does not show up in the template manager because it is not a template, it is a library / plugin that the templates use. All the Gantry controls are in the template settings. You have multiple templates there due to overrides, you'll want to edit the default settings (Master) template to affect the entire site, the others are set to provide different settings for individual pages as set in the "assignments" tabs, front page, ECT. Template overriding is a Joomla feature, our templates do not create this system, instead they make use of it.

The social buttons are controlled through RokSocialButtons, a plugin. To edit the settings, go to the plugin manager, open the settings and enable or disable the services you wish to link to.

To remove the numbers from the RokSprocket Nav, add this code to the bottom of your template.css
      .sprocket-features-pagination ul li span{ display: none;}

To make modifications to your site nav, I will need a link to your site to see what you have. Thanks.

    • Trying also to remove the number that appears above my article content for the homepage and can't seem to find where that originates? Not in the Articles Options settings, so can you advise?

    • Okay, I started all over and then, one by one, hid the Articles Options until it appeared.

Seems that the numeric 1 appears when you HIDE 'Show Intro Text' in the options tab.

    • Hi, that's odd, I've never come across this before.

Is it working for you now, or should I look into it more? In this case, the intro text doesn't really apply much either way. Let me know.

    • Not sure what good it does enabled, but at least the number is gone?

    • Hi, the intro text would only apply if you were using the Read More to split your article into 2 pieces, with an intro showing on one page, like a blog, linking to the full article. That option controls whether or not the intro text shows on the full page article or not. If you're not using that, I would just go with what works. Hope that helps.

    • I see, and that would be a custom setting in the params for a particular article that requires an over-ride to the default settings to enable.

      Thanks.

    • Ok - I've made great strides but have a couple questions if someone could help...

      on www.rexxhome.com ...

-How can I make the main content panel look like the "Don't You Wish..." newsflash panel - as in transparency border, corners and font, etc? Currently my main content panel is a custom html module in content-top-a position but I'm not if that is the right way to do it.

-why doesn't the top of the main panel (content-top-a position) line up with the top of the "Don't You Wish..." (sidebar-a) panel

-What is the extra panel with no content below the content-top-a panel that I'm using as my main content? I can't get it to go away and I can account for every module that is published (only 5). Is this my Main Body panel that can't be collapsed? If so - how do I publish to this panel as it isn't listed in the positions list for modules?

      Thanks so much
