Did not notice this thread before now. But a great concept by RocketWorx. I have never liked phpBB. But since the team behind went as far to not release the forum under to GPL to suit the need of Joomla!. I would not expect anything else by RocketTheme.
What a great idea to write a layer yourself, instead of using a poor bridge. Looking forward to the new site, and the layer thingy.

phpBB 3 is a completely different beast to phpBB2, in many ways, outshines both smf and vbulletin in terms of features, speed plus has a massive modding community up there with vB.
If the news, articles and comment system could somehow be integrated into phpbb3, that would be beyond awesome

Andy, perhaps you could give us already some details for your phpBB bridge? I'm asking 'cause I'm going to set up a website, running J1.5 and phpBB3 RC5.
I wonder if I need to install the forum and Joomla into a single DB and I'm also interested in other prerequisites - cu,
