When did Joomla Development announce that 1.5 will no longer be supported after September 1st, 2012? How long ago was that announcement made public? Also, will TerranTribune Dark template be compatible with 2.5? Please someone answer my question. I've tried many avenues to try to get this question answered with no real concrete answer. I'd settle for just a 'yes' or 'no' at this point.

About TerranTribune it's compatible with 2.5 as you can see on www.rockettheme.com/joomla-templates/compatibility-matrix
I'm not sure about the dark version but you can simply replace the images and maybe a few lines of CSS from the dark version (J1.5) to the 2.5 version. - Please reply with a direct link to the issue & create a new thread for each new issue.
