    Siteground hosting?

Posted 17 years 8 months ago
    • ...I'm hosting with Dreamhost and it's been a complete nightmare. No other way to say it.

I'm on the verge of buying into Siteground's Joomla hosting pitch and am curious of anyone else's recent experience with them, especially using RT templates. Siteground looks like they're offering pretty good space at pretty good rates.

I'll be running the RT Elemental template and my current site is pulling in around 5,000 uniques/50,000 page views a day.

      Thoughts, comments, better alternatives?

      Thanks.

    • what was the problem with dreamhost? are you on shared hosting? 5000 uniques a day would definitely kill a heavy website, and you might be slamming dreamhost when they aren't to blame ???

Sorry to go off-topic, but i figured you would be interested to know that I could not go beyond your splash page... my popup blocker wouldn't allow me to.

Concerning Siteground. I have some sites with them, but they are all low traffic sites. So I can't say if their shared hosting plan can handle a busy site. Maybe you should think about a dedicated server or virtual private hosting.

Problem = Downtime. Constantly down lately.
Shared hosting = Yes. It's a phpbb board. Nothing fancy. It's the only site on my dreamhost account.

Man, I wish I could swing a dedicated or VP. I just can't do it right now.

That's one of the reasons I'm re-doing the site to the Elemental template. I'm trying to convert some of that traffic into revenue.

    • LOL those stats for a phpBB board would definitely kill a shared hosting account. Not nice at all to be rubbishing Dreamhost when it is unlikely they are wrong in this case.

This is like someone chartering a yacht that can carry 30 people comfortably, then loading up 300 people, and blaming the yacht owner when it sinks.

You are likely to face the same issues over at Siteground if you get a shared account.

A phpBB board uses a lot of queries, especially if you have some plugins running. A really busy board will never work on a shared account (or you should be lucky it's a new server with a few accounts on it).
