In my understanding this question more about Joomla forum but anyhow, I believe in my understanding you are asking Search Engine Friendly URL.
Login to site Administration
Click on “Global Configuration”
On Right hand side Look for “SEO Settings”
Check Radio Button “Search Engine Friendly URLs” (Yes) or (No)
OK i dig into more about it, Under "Search Engine Friendly URLs"
Find: "Use URL rewriting" (YES) And amazingly when you mouse hover it, Your whole question answer will appear.
It simply says go to Joomla folder by FTP and rename htaccess.txt into dot .htacess {add dot at front of file}
Additional Note:
In Your Case more about customized link find joomla extension related to URL
nope ... look at the .htaccess file (be sure that you have renamed it!)... you will need to change something if your site is in a subfolder.
##
# Uncomment following line if your webserver's URL
# is not directly related to physical file paths.
# Update Your Joomla! Directory (just / for root).

404 error appears sometime, when we use site\Globel configration\Site\SEO Settings\Search Egine Friendly URLs
Check your "Atricle Tile" or "Article Alias" same as goes to "Categories" "Title" and "Alias"
What happens when your menu looking for old link or file name or alias and it does not find due to Messing up with SEO setting it produced 404 error. another major cause, which might be you know something it is not published.
Site\maintenance\clear cache
Clear the cache and refresh the site to test.
I'm not sure what the problem was. I was close to calling the host because I just fixed this on 2 other sites hosted at the same place. It must have been user error as I finally copy/pasted a working .htaccess file and uploaded it. Finally worked. Thanks for your help guys.
