Activation Link Email does not arrive

Hi,
Trying to keep things very simple. Using Graffito feature "Login Panel" with active module "login". Accessing button Member Login + as public user, select "Create an account...".
No problem creating the account, then get standard system message: "Your account has been created and an activation link has been sent to the email address you entered. Note that you must activate the account by clicking on the activation link when you get the email before you can login."
User account created immediately, viewable on Admin back side. On front side still waiting, and 48 hours later, no email received in new member email account. How to troubleshoot or fix?
