    2.5 Template conversion to 3.0

Posted 12 years 3 weeks ago
    • Hi, I just loaded 2.5 joomla template Dominion and it loaded fine; but when I went to configure it under template manager, the details and files show fine, but no preview and when I click on styles to configure settings, I get this error: Fatal error: Call to undefined method JController::getInstance() in /home/atlantic/public_html/myatlanticfilter.com/administrator/components/com_gantry/gantry.php on line 25

I am assuming I have to do something to convert to 3.0. I am kinda in a fix because my client used the 1.5 version of this template before we updated and wants the same look (which is beautiful I might add); old server crashed on a regular basis, so decision was made to move to new server and update to current version, can someone direct me in some way. I am the one who will do the work....Thank you.
      Deb

    • Hi
      and welcome to the forums
This image is hidden for guests.
Please log in or register to see it.

So lets see if I understand this.
      A client has a J1.5 site.
You help him convert it to J2.5.
You install the Dominion J2.5 template and now have errors in the Admin end.

      So my two questions are:
      1. why do you want J3.0?
      2. did you install the Dominion Bundle if the J2.5 site didn't have Gantry already?

Okay lets start from the beginning so we're on the same page when describing things.
For Joomla 2.5.x and 3.0.x we offer 3 installation packages:
      1. RocketLauncher which contains the latest Joomla core installation, the template itself and the Gantry framework which is like the Control Panel for the template and a mix of Rockettheme extensions.
This package needs an empty folder on your server and you will get your Joomla core installed, the Gantry framework and the template. During installation choosing to install "Sample Data" will make the installed site look like the demo. However our newer templates will install this automatically for you.

      2. Bundle which is the Gantry framework and the template itself.
This package is used when there is a previous Joomla installation with a non-Rockettheme template installed. After installation you have the required the Gantry framework and the template. No "Sample Data" is offered as your Database already contains site content information. There are no extensions offered with this package since they have to be installed in folders outside of the Rockettheme template folder.

      3. Template Standalone which is the template itself.
This package is used when there is a previous Joomla installation with a Rockettheme template installed. Since Gantry would have been previously installed, it's only required to install the template (although upgrading to the latest Gantry is highly recommended). Again no "Sample Data" is offered as your Database already contains site content information and the same situation for extensions as the "Bundle".

    • Thank you for responding so quickly....to clarify....Original site was 1.5 on poorly configured server and crashed more than it was up (though when it was up with 1.5 version of Dominion was beautiful); decision was made to move the site to a new server, and only version of joomla that could be installed was 3.0; later decision was made to keep look if possible; hence download of 2.5 bundle (because we had not loaded any RT framework; but all content has been loaded on new site ( www.myatlanticfilter.com ); hosting account with Hostgator

      Does this help?

Understood - this link will help with the development schedule -> www.rockettheme.com/joomla-templates/compatibility-matrix

As for HostGator I have numerous client accounts there on J25 so I don't know why only J30 could be installed?

As J30 is considerably different than J25, it's not a matter of just "adjusting" the template. The templates actually have to be rewritten for J30.
