    SOLVED Calendar Options

Posted 12 years 1 month ago
    • I'm looking for a basic calendar extension for our site. Right now our church just has a basic calendar that looks like an outlook calendar. It doesn't allow for users to click on the event to view more information.
We like something simple, but I don't want to have to use google calendar. Has anyone used the rocket theme events extension? Is it standalone where we can manually enter the events?

Any suggestions. The simpler the better, we don't need a bunch of features.

      Thanks

    • Hi there,

RokMiniEvents needs a calendar to sync with. It is just a way to display from existing calendars.

I regularly use JCal Pro for my clients. Quite simple but has got extras if you need them. There are quite a selection in the Joomla Extensions Directory.

      Hope this helps 8)

    • I've used JEvents for years. It's non-commercial, and will do what you describe. It's not hard. Look at it on my church page if you'd like to - highwest.net - bottom left corner of the home page.

    • Thanks, Pastor.
That looks real nice. Basic, and like the color coding. Are you using a pro or paid version or is that the way it comes out of the "box"?
      Thanks

Thanks for the help David. I'll give RokMiniEvents a try. I like the way it looks. Did you say that it has to use google calendars. What calendar programs will it talk to?

    • Hi there,

Here is the info on the extension page...

RokMiniEvent is a simple and elegant solution for displaying events on your site. The module syncs automatically with either Google Calendar, JomSocial, RSEvents, JEvents, EventList or RedEvent presenting basic information such as title, date and a description, which link to the full event.

The module is very intuitive, automatically adjusting itself based on your events and event ranges; simply set the number of events and the time range, and RokMiniEvents will do the rest.

      Hope this helps 8)

    • Hi Tom,

I've never used the commercial versions of Jevents. In the past I have edited some of the files to make the colors match my site, but I think everything you see there now is just straight out of the box. I've used the calendar module, too, which allows users to click to a specific date, but just decided not to use it in my most recent upgrade. What you see on my site home page is what Jevents calls "Latest Events".

    • Stan,
I finally got around to plugging in the recent events module. So, where can I get instructions on customizing it. Your layout looks nice with the color coding and description of the events.

Id like to have it set as a module on it's own page with a descirption of the event under the title. We have an announcements page on our current site and I kind of wanted it to look like this but with the same look as jevents. You can personal message me and we can talk offline about it if you want.

      Thanks
      Tom

    • Hi Tom,

I'm not really the person to ask. While I have found the files that control various parameters and edited them, I can't even remember which ones and what I did. It's been a while. It's pretty time consuming for someone like me who is just using trial and error. If you want to try, you can find the files in /modules/mod_jevents_latest, etc. and /components/com_jevents. Edit them with Wordpad or Notepad. Most of the files use some words you can understand. Just backup the original file in case you do something you shouldn't have.

I like the way your site looks. I've never tried to modify Jevents so much that it would look like that. I'm not sure you can.

Documentation and forums are at the Jevents site - jevents.net . Sorry I couldn't be more help.
