    DDA Compliance - RocketTheme templates?

Posted 12 years 2 days ago
    • Hi guys,

I was wondering if RocketTheme templates are DDA compliant.

      http://www.w3.org/TR/WCAG10/

And if so, to what level.

      Does anyone know the answer?

    • Those guidelines are for content developers - it's up to you to put those standards into your content.

We create templates - which control the design and layout for your site. There is nothing in our products that prevent this, but no features that enhance it. What content you put into your site is up to you, and not something we have control over. We provide the design, you have to provide the content.

    • I disagree that they are purely content based. Although yes you could argue that I could remove all RocketTheme modules having a bare template, and be entirely safe. Except with regards to text size & menus, which would still be controlled by the template. Potentially other flaws could also occur due to CSS.

However, I would say that from my investigations your templates appear (to a non-expert like me) to meet the requirements.

For example, you provide a text resizer option. That would count as aiding someone who is visually imaired. You also have responsive templates. I believe that aids with "minimum text size" on the browser (not 100% sure if that is still true).

I also noted that on the theme I had chosen, the RokSprocket front page display had numbers to switch from slide to slide. They were actual characters and not images. Which ticked another box.

I'm aware that things such as "alt" text have to be provided by the user, but I'm also aware that a simple image fader at the top of the page could be the difference between a pass and a fail here. You guys seem to have it covered though.

Overall I think I am content to say that your templates, even using a RokLauncher meet these requirements. And I think it is an excellent selling point to say that unless you change something, the requirements are met.

Good job. Worth looking into from your point of view I'd say!

    • I've looked over these specs many times, much of it is content based. All the technical stuff is in our products, not because of these specs necessarily, but more because it's simply the correct semantical and technical way to build websites. Our developers know what to do, this is one of those things you don't really "see" unless you look deeper.

At the end of the day, we do what we can to help make it easy for you - but it's up to the individual using our themes to make sure any required standards are met on the content end - that's the part we don't have any control over.
