I have Quantive installed for J15 (version 1.5.23). Is it safe to upgrade to the latest version (1.5.26)? How should I do this with the template installed. Or does it matter?
Doesn't matter at all but I would strongly recommend you to upgrade your site to J2.5
I am afraid that from the beginning of 2013 we no longer can provide support for J1.5 related issues. This has been clearly announced in our blog more than 1 year ago
Ok, well I guess I can Google it, but I'm sure it's more involved than installing the 2.5 RL and then importing the databases. If I can't find any documentation, it will just remain a 1.5.
My issue is the site is extremely popular for their industry and currently holds a 1st page position on Google. I don't want to jeopardize any of that.
All new sites I've created are 2.5, but I have to decide what I can do with these 1.5 sites. I understand your need to put support for legacy versions to rest, but I would think there would be documentation in the club somewhere on this.
I haven't started yet, but I believe I will be using the second version mentioned (paid version, not free version).
From what I have read, you must be running at least J1.5.26.
Upgrading versions is usually harmless...
(Upload the zipped upgrade to your server (1.5.23 > 1.5.26), extract it to the root for the Joomla site.)
Before you do so, just to be safe, be sure to make a backup of your site using Akeeba or something similar.
Also, if you cant find a 1.5.23 > 1.5.26 update, you may need to go 1.5.23 > 1.5.24, 1.5.24 > 1.5.25, 1.5.25 > 1.5.26...
I think that is what I had to do withing the last month or so.
If you can't find the files, I still might have copies hanging around.
Also, again, using Akeeba or something similar, if you are upgrading to the latest version, test it in a sub directory / sub domain on your host or local host. Don't do it live! (Prevents hair falling out or heart attacks.)
