How to add Rokmoo menu to another template

  • How to add Rokmoo menu to another template

Posted 17 years 6 months ago
    • Hi,

I'd like to add the rokmoomenu to an older template. I started to do it but it seems like there are a lot of things to think about. Is there an easy way to do this? Or do I just have to change all of the references to the menu everywhere and upload the js and css files?

      Thanks,

      Tony

    • It's a lot of work...I've done it several times now (both to older temps and my own custom temps for customers) and it does not get any easier; each template seems to bring it's own problems, and each time I find myself doing a significant bulk of work to get moomenu working. You need to have decent coding skills, especially CSS.

HOWEVER, thanks to RT's unique style of coding, implementation is made a lot easier than it could be. Try implementing moomenu from Joomlart's JA Purity (GPL 1.5 template released for the 1.5 template compo) and you'll see what I mean, that's a great example of how to release some GPL code and make it so complex that no-one else can possible use it elsewhere - simply horrendous.

    • Just to echo Dan's comment, it is not easy process. I have integrated it for a few templates but is really hard as each template is completely unique.

    • Thanks. That's what I thought from taking a first look. I may give it a try anyway at some point, just to increase my skills and understanding of everything. In the meantime, maybe it will be easier to rework the design of one of the templates with rockmoo already integrated. Thanks for the feedback.

This is exactly what I was talking about on the joomla topic for their template.

If your going to make a joomla template that is suppose to be packaged with joomla at least add some comments. The point of default cms templates/themes is for learning.

    • Indeed, and it's a great shame really as it's has the highest probability of winning the competition.

I consider myself pretty experienced with template coding etc but I just gave up after half an hour of struggling.

I think the main issue is that they took one of their other templates and just tweaked it a little, perhaps if they'd actually made one from scratch especially with these things in mind it might have actually turned out pretty good.
