Which Theme Would YOU suggest?

    • Hi All,
I am a long time off and on RT client..more on than off the last few years.. anyways.. I have an upcoming project and am having some difficulty picking a theme.. It is a health related site with a lot of info, many users, a physician listing, etc.. basically a content/article heavy site.. one requisite is that it be reactive for tablets, phones, etc..

Without the reactive bit I would mark up Solar Sentinal or Syndicate. Although they are older, the style and designs of these two just fit the bill. The theme needs to be light bluish for their colors, light or white background, and the content layout somewhat like a news or TV type site.

The newer templates seem to be one flavor or another of massive top scroller, some boxes here, some boxes there and pretty design thick and content light.

From my perspective, it also needs to be pretty quick.. although Afterburner2 is just too plain..so..

      What would you pick?

      Thanks for your input!

    • I would choose Afterburner 2 - It doesn't require much re-styling IMHO :)

Your modules and content will be part of the design btw ;)

    • You'll appreciate that this is rather subjective, but...

Many of the templates could fit the bill here. Clarion and Ximenia are responsive and have "blue/white" themes. Try to ignore the demo data, all the templates are bound to look different with your own content so things like "large headers" can easily be overcome using alternate positions within the template.

Afterburner2 is a great "minimal" template - but of course you will have to do some styling yourself. Also, there is the default "gantry template" available from http://gantry-framework.org which again is a minimal template. Both of these templates are FREE too. Again, both are responsive too.

      Regards, Mark.

    • Thank you both for your replies, it is appreciated. I do keep wandering back to Afterburner2. I may give that one a whirl.

I understand what you are saying MrT about the included content and large headers.. I have come to find out after a few launches that the workload increases exponentially as you modify and change the theme base. I did one site that was a pizza place where I used Fresco and one of the food presets.. it was insanely easy. I think that site went from upload to launch in like 2 days.. I did another with.. lemme remember its been a while.. MixMag I think.. and I ended up almost redoing everything.. it took 2 months. I guess what Im getting at is a theme to me has 2 basic functions, visual impact and content arrangement. The closer you can get up front, the less work you have to do and imho, thats the entire "reason de etre" for buying themes, to get a close starting point so they make your life easier..

And on that note, I will say that my subscriptions here through the years (I think Ive been in and out for like 4-5 years now) have saved me incalculable amounts of time and grief. I recommend and give you props whenever anyone says the word "theme".
