    • Hi there,
I need to migrate my website from 2.5.14 to 3.1.5 and I would like to know the best way to upgrade the Rockettheme plugins/modules and theme.
Must they to be updated before the Joomla migration or after? I have an Akeeba backup, and I tried to migrate for two times, but I wasn't able even to logging my admin account, because the migration didn't work. So, no way to access to Akeeba under my control panel. The guys from my server did it for me, because I asked for a backup before my tries (just for secure!)

      So, what would you do?

      Kindest regards.

    • 1. backup backup backup! (akeeba backup)
      2. i'd make sure everything is up to date BEFORE you upgrade joomla. namely, gantry, rt extensions, template.
      3. test all updates on J2.5
      4. make sure any of the templates/extensions/plugins you use will work with J3

      if all that is ok...

      5. update joomla from the control panel.
      6. backup again
      7. test

      Regards, Mark.

    • Thank you MrT.
      1. My Akkeeba backup is done.
      2. Everythig is up-to-date (Gantry, Template, plugins,...)
      3. When you say "test" all updates in J2.5 what do you mean? Under J2.5 I have to install the J3 version of the plugins?
4.What if some of the plugins doesn't work in v.3? I mean, some are v2.5 and v3 compatible... but what about the ones that only work on v2.5? should I update them before the migration?

      Thanks for your support!

    • 3. no I meant just make sure everything is still working with all the latest updates in J2,5 before you make the leap to J3
      4. most companies provide a single version of their extension that works with J2.5 and J3 - so yes you should update these before you upgrade joomla and make sure that they still work on J2.5 first. For those extensions that only have a J3 specific version - then you have no choice but to upgrade J3 first and then upgrade that extension straight afterwards.

Btw I hope you are aware that J3 is not yet recommended for production sites (by joomla.org) as it is still STS. Many people do... but just be aware that J3 may contain bugs...

      Regards, Mark.
