Maybe I'm missing something, but template updating does not seem to work like extension updating. When we try to update a RT template with the Joomla installer, it says there is already a template of that name. If we uninstall the current template, all our settings are lost. The instructions on updating a template are to FTP up the files, which is tedious to say the least.
All our customization of the RT templates are done with custom CSS files and additional images. Why can't templates updates be done like extension updates? Is this coming? Currently, we rarely update templates because it is such a pain. - Dan Walker - Web Designer & Developer @ Top Webs Network

I am not sure which Joomla version and which template do you use but I just tried to update Chapelco template on my local environment and it went perfectly correctly without the need to remove old version of template first
