Forgive me if my terminology is incorrect. I have created a RokSprocket module and published it to position sidebar-b. I have also created a Menu Item and have that menu item set to display a Category List. My question is as follows, how do I get the module to only show on the Category List page and not on the Article pages within the Category? I have enclosed a few screen shots of what I am seeing. You will see the Menu Item, a screen shot of the Category List with the module in sidebar-b and then a screen shot of the first Article, Aluminum and the module appearing there was well.
Could you please post a URL to your site so we can look for you. Without a link to page where the problem is on your site it is quite hard for us to provide the best solution due to so many variables. We try to provide file names and line numbers for code changes and if changes have already been made then our advice may be incorrect.
You should be able to use the hidden technique and create "single article" hidden menu items for those articles so that you can then unassign the module from the hidden menu item.
Create a MENU called "hidden" (no need to create a module to place it anywhere). In the hidden menu, create a MENU ITEM for each of the orphaned articles (single article type) and make sure these menu items are published. Now the hidden menu won't appear on any of your pages, but, the articles will be referenceable by their own menu item (and therefore you can exclude the module from these pages).
Alternately consider using AMM (Advanced Module Manager) from NoNumber as it has much more flexibility over control of modules.
Regards, Mark.
