SEF & multilanguage site - Problem

Posted 10 years 11 months ago
    • Hello,
I run Joomla 2.5 with Quasar template, and I have implemented multilaguage site (english & greek)
Everything works fine, given that SEF is disabled.
When I enable SEF, the language switcher stops working (I hit the other language icon, the page refreshes, but the language remains the same)
I do not have "suspicious" extentions, nor third party...

      Do you have any hint?

      Thanks in advance!

    • Could you please post a URL to your site so we can look for you. Without a link to page where the problem is on your site it is quite hard for us to provide the best solution due to so many variables. We try to provide file names and line numbers for code changes and if changes have already been made then our advice may be incorrect.

Please read this excellent tutorial by our MOD Igor here... http://www.rockettheme.com/forum/index.php?f=18&t=176550&rb_v=viewtopic

      Regards, Mark.

    • Thanks MrT,
I will read all the guidelines you provided from Igor (in case I forgot something to do).
My site is online but not public yet, so I will pm you the credentials to have a look.
      Thanks!

    • Well I checked carefully all the guides that Igor mentions.
The only thing I had not configured (and I immediately implemented on my site) was the template copies, one for each installed language.
I also configured all the SEO setting that Igor recommends and all the language switcher settings.

But the problem exists: The default language is greek, and when I hit english, the page refreshes but remains greek...(although that the href when I mouse over the english is www.domain.gr/index.php/en & also the url of the page is index.php/en BUT the content is greek!! )

    • rename htaccess.txt in your joomla root to .htaccess then in glbal configuration enable both SEF and URL rewriting. Then clear server and browser cache and try again.

    • Thanks for your time,
      The .htaccess is renamed already.
Furthermore, I did exactly what you proposed, but... the switcher still does not work.... :(
although the browser url end with /en, the page and the language remains greek!
If you have any other idea, it would be perfect for me...

    • As you can see from the attached screenshots - you pages seem to be switching languages ok? So, i'm not sure what problem you are seeing? Perhaps this is some setting in your browser?
