Where to upload the extracted rocketlauncher populus package
Posted 17 years 4 months ago
Just got a new hosted server to use for a completely fresh installation. I have extracted the rocketlauncher populus package and now am not sure where to upload this to. The tutorial mentions to upload this to the public_html directory but it does not exist on my server. The following is the directory tree. Where should I upload to so that the site points to http://www.mysite.com. This name is only used as an example
..
www.mysite.com
.stats
logs
web
cgi-bin
content
index.html
I am trying to be exact on this! Thank you for the assistance

There already is an index.html file in the "content" folder...so if you browse to
www.mysite.com
and it comes up with a holding or blank landing page, then it's definitely the correct folder.
Looking at the structure, the "web" folder is the more logical folder though...

Thanks for the info. I found this section on my hosting sites knowledge base
Once you have logged into your FTP server a list of websites associated with your username and password will be displayed. Choose the domain you wish to upload your website files into, open it and you will find three additional directories. One of the three directories will be labeled "web," the other two folders are for server side stats and logs reporting and should not be deleted or edited. Open the "web" directory and you should see two more directories labeled "cgi-bin" and "content." If you have CGI or Perl files they will need to be uploaded into the "cgi-bin" folder while your HTML, ASP, PHP, images and other web files should be uploaded into your "content" folder.
Here is a roadmap of the FTP server that will be very similar to your domain's layout:
Your domain's root directory
/web
/cgi-bin <
CGI and Perl files go inside this directory
/yourscript.pl
/yourscript.cgi
/content <
Website files need to be uploaded into this directory
/index.html
/image.jpg
/stats <
Do not delete or edit
/logs <
Do not delete or edit
It seems like they want all HTML, ASP, PHP, images and other web files uploaded into your "content" folder. I would think this is where to upload the rocketlauncher populus package. Do you think this is correct. Thank you for the help

The installation went well. I deleted the installation folder as prompted at the end of the installation process. I have some questions about configuration.php. During my rocketlauncher installation of populus I received an unwritable configuration.php message during the pre-installation checklist. The message prompts you to continue and gives you a message at the end to upload code by hand. I copied the code into notepad but it is not clear where this code should be copied? Can anyone prove some details on this. I am not sure where to drop this code or if I have to make a configuration.php file.

Nearly complete with my install. What is happening is I can not access my site going to
www.yourdomain.com
and can only access it at
www.yourdomain.com/Joomla_RT_Populus/.
; I called my hosting provider and they told me that the main folder Joomla_RT_Populus installed under the content folder is the cause of this. If I were to copy all the folders and files in Joomla_RT_Populs one level up directly withing the content folder it would work. I guess they are saying simply remove the Joomla_RT_Populs folder and leave all the folders and files inside it placed directly in the /content folder. Do you think this will work? You can see the directory structure below
Thank you
/www.yourdomain.com <
Your domain's root directory
/web
/cgi-bin <
CGI and Perl files go inside this directory
/yourscript.pl
/yourscript.cgi
/content <
Website files need to be uploaded into this directory
/Joomla_RT_Populus (under this is all the rocketlauncher installed folders and files)
/index.html
/image.jpg
/stats <
Do not delete or edit
/logs <
Do not delete or edit

Yes you will need to drag the entire content of Joomla_RT_populus up a level. Then edit and update the configuration.php file, since the settings will still point to this folder.
