I love the way the newer versinos of Joomla remind you to update your extensions, but i wonder why the templates aren't included in that? Is that something I am missing or is it just not available? If it is not, I suggest you try to include that in future versino releases, it would be really nice to know that a new version of template has been released.

This has been discussed for ages and I'm on the side of this view. Post your suggestion in the REQUESTS forum where voices are heard
In the meantime I'll ask the devs if there is a technical reason why we haven't done this yet. -

- I would agree with the above posters. Is this something that is coming? it seems crazy that for people with multiple sites on different templates that we would need to periodically manually check to see if a template has an upgrade

We do have updates integrated for our extensions, see RokSprocket, RokBox, RokPad, etc. as well as Gantry and we also have template updates for Hydrogen.
The biggest issue comes with Premium Templates. We cannot offer template updates because we need a middle man that allows the user to authenticate and provide credentials to demonstrate there is the right to download the update. Joomla doesn't offer any mechanism to integrate external marketplaces with their update system and everything you are able to update, you can only because they are free extensions.
If you think about it, when you want to download a new RT template or an updated template, you have to log into RocketTheme.com, before you can proceed.
We always had plans to come up with a solution for this, where the users could generate an API key from rockettheme.com and, through a plugin in Joomla, be able to authenticate and download the updates. However, it is a very delicate matter and involves a lot of coding and testing so it might not be anything we will deliver anytime soon.
I hope at least you have an idea of why templates are not available for updating. -

I see today even Gantry5 update reminder works sweet
You used to have that system where you could enter rockettheme user/pass for template updates ... I gather that went with Gantry 5?
Im for the API system
Ive seen it on several other providers (in this case Akeeba) where you have a "Master" Api key and the USER can create "Child" api keys to use on their client sites so if the customer stops paying the bill we can delete that API key and no more updates.
That sort of system should work sweet on the club level as if the developer has that club the end user should be able to update any of the templates the master api allows
I guess it gets a little more difficult for individual template purchases unless the master API can read which templates the developer has access to
If it hasnt been bought up already in the Requests section I will start an "API" topic
