    W3C compliance - Accessibility - still

Posted 9 years 10 months ago
    • Hi,

I'm still in need of help. I posted a number of times about the accessibility W3C compliance of RT regarding the inbuilt responsive menu. I was told to hold out for the gantry 5 release - and did so patiently. I have had some fantastic help from RT support with removing the RT menu and replacing it with a really cheap and nasty (but totally accessible) menu. When I asked that developer they just said - simply follow the normal standards of building things...

      My question
      - can anyone please please help me, or tell me how to - make the RT menu accessible (W3C) compliant. I WILL PAY!

What is wrong with it? people using mobile phone screen accessibility can't see it. There is no 'title' attribute and when touching it with the finger (mobile) nothing at all shows up. In contrast, the cheap and nasty menu on BROKEN LINK REMOVED works great!

is this CSS? something else I need to change? I can't use developer tools to add title attributes etc.. on a mobile phone.

      Why is it important?
I am legally blind and millions of other people have a print disability. RT can hate/ignore them as much as they like - but I need to service the broadest possible audience with my sites.

I'm begging - please please help me make your my sites usable for everyone.

      J.

    • With the utmost respect - please don't send emails related to accessibility issues if you havn't read this post.

As noted - the issue is with the menu not reading back to people with a print disability. The issue according to other 'very average' developers is - someone is not using standard, normal, simple development processes when building the menu. I am told this by people who know more than me... I don't want to believe people wilfully hate or deliberately ignore massive sections of the community.

To the person who mailed me directly, please do not do so again - unless you read the post first.

I really do appreciate the effort RT puts into serving clients - it is why i only recommend RT.

      Cheers,
      J.

    • Hi there,

I did a quick check on this and Gantry 4 templates use RokNavMenu and although Joomla provides the options to add titles to most (not all types of item) this is then missing when the page is generated.

Gantry 5 was going to address this as it does not use RokNavMenu but my tests show the same results.

I have opened a ticket for the development team to take a look.

      Thanks for your patience 8)
