    Help with template choice

Posted 9 years 3 months ago
    • I need to build a new site. My VPS has graciously allowed me to continue my primary site on 5.2.17 PHP as updating breaks the site. Plus I would like to add elements I do not now have. I'm currently still using TerraTribune on Joomla 1.5.10, a site I built in 2009. It works very well for my needs. I don't really want to change because it is not only simple with all the information potential clients need, but it is first page google results on all search terms I've designated (often top 3).

New templates with the vertical presentation of content as you scroll down simply does not work for my needs, ala Antares, Xenon, etc. Some older templates seem more appropriate for my needs, but I don't want to spend a month on a new site build, risk my SEO standings and then find myself in the same situation in another year or two in terms of a template that will only function with end of life versions of PHP.

Do you have any recommendations or guidelines that might help me choose a template that will last awhile? My site is divethegalapagos.com.

    • It's not an impossible task to have a Gantry 5 template look as a Gantry 4 template. As such I took our Requiem and at my clients request made it look EXACTLY like Plethora!
CSS styling can help you acheive the exact look of your TerranTribune and Gantry 5's Layout Manager makes module positioning a snap.

Your current site look would be easy to reproduce in Requiem, full-width look, OR in Xenon for the boxed look.

    • Hi there,

I am currently going through our old posts and was wondering if you still need help with this issue or can we close it?

For your information TerranTribune is now available as Joomla 3 version although it is not responsive and we have no plans to make it responsive due to the way it is constructed.

      Hope this helps 8)

    • Hi David. Could you explain what you mean by 'it is not responsive'? Would not function? No support?

    • Hi there,

A 'Responsive' template will look good across most devices. So if you have sidebars on a responsive template they would move beneath main content on a small phone. Non-responsive will mean the user having to scroll sideways. That is about the easiest way I can describe it.

You can always check it out on the demo by viewing on a phone an seeing how it is displayed.
