What are your thoughts on larger font sizes?
I seem to be noticing more sites with larger font sizes, 19.2px seems to be a common one.
I feel like 16px used to be a popular size for websites.
What font size do you think is ideal?
Can big be too big?
I am working on an interstellar template site and want to have the best font size

16px is good
I think the text should balance the space ya know... so sometimes a larger font is justified for your content... but yeah, I think anything TOO big can look childish/unprofessional... like you were increasing the font-size to complete a high school essay that was required to be 1 page... so there's definitely a balance
1rem is the new standard (which roughly equals 16px)

Thanks so much for the reply and info.
Agree the font size needs to "match" the look and feel of the site and not try to make the site something it is not.
when looking for font size articles it found this one from 2011 saying that 16px was the best size.

I just checked CNN.com and they are 18px
All for the past 4 years or so, I was thinking 14px was about right for a larger font. I guess smashing magazine and CNN had me beat
For interstellar do you think 19.2px is to big for the design? (I realize this is a personal opinion and do not mean to be throwing any shade to the designers who created interstellar)
For most of the sites we develop I handle the usability/functionality and my partner handles the design/look&feel.
I alway push for a bigger font size (to improve usability) and he votes for a more normal font size for overall asetethetics.
I guess we are between 16px and 19.2px. Anyone want to be the tie breaker?

- I do think 19.2px works well in Interstellar because of how much space Interstellar pads between items... with more white space the larger font size works well.... if the particles/items/blocks were closer together the larger font size might feel a bit crammed, but with the current room to breathe I think it helps fill the space a bit

Excellent point.
We have been working to remove some of the padding and space of interstellar to match the current live site.

So by removing some of the padding the 16px size might be better.

This is a topic that has been bothering me with RT templates over the past year. 16px or less IMO - I really do not like the move to use larger and larger font sizes by default on templates.
Seems kind of like typing in all capitals. Unnecessary.

I can see exactly where you are coming from.
I am the person who always wants fonts bigger on my sites to improve readability, I now find myself making the font size smaller.
What was great, is that with one css adjustment it was easy to change the size.
