Can we get a Particles(/templates) overview page?

  • Can we get a Particles(/templates) overview page?

    • Hi,

In the old days life was simple as I knew my way around :-)
We had a templates section to look at and we had an extensions section to select from.
And updates to extentions did trigger Joomla updates

In the Gantry 5 world life seems a bit more complex ...
We still have the templates section (great) but for reusing joomla / template particles you need to review all released Joomla Gantry 5 templates ... and somehow you need to keep track of those as well to spot the updates to particles you have reused from them.

Or is there a smarter way?

    • Gantry 5 has a core set of particles, when Gantry 5 updates are released they show in joomla updater and when you apply the update all the core particles get updated too. For template specific particles when we release a new version of the template we announce it here http://www.rockettheme.com/product-updates (there is an an RSS feed there too that you can subscribe to). Template updates have never showed in joomla updater (even in Gantry 4) as they require a subscription to be downloaded.

Yes, you can copy particles from one template to another (subject to your subscription allowing you to download the donor template), but after that it is your responsbility to track changes on the donor template.

In the future we will be adding more capability to Gantry 5 to make it easier to import/export particles between templates. Right now though particles don't even have a version number, and the same named particle can actually do different things in different templates.

So, in a long winded way, what you have stated is the best it is for now.

      Regards, Mark.
