Leverage Browser Cache (Not system - Cache!)

Posted 8 years 3 months ago
    • Hi,

I have recently tried to speed up my site, optimized images using tiny png etc. Could anybody advise how I can speed up the site further. It is image heavy yet they are optimized and we have videos hosted by vimeo that obviously increase load time, yet these are essential.

I have tried system cache yet been advised not to as it conflicted with logging in to system for subscribers. I have researched and been advised to use Jotcache yet this does not upgrade with Joomla which will be a ball ache and will no doubt cause problems in the future.

I have gzip compression and conservative cache set, how else could I improve the caching system and/or speed of the site as a result.

      Thanks,
      Leon.

    • At some point those images will have to be downloaded to the browser ? (whether they're cached on the server or not). You can set longer expires times for your images in .htaccess so that subssequently (after first download) they don't have to be downloaded so often. As you will appreciate this will help frequent visitors but it will not help the "one-off" site visitor.

I would also recommend that you use a compressor such as our rokbooster. Rokbooster has to be tuned to your particular environment and extensions - this is not something we can do for you as part of this support forum. I encourage you to read the rokbooster documentation to learn how to add exclusions and change the many other settings in rokbooster. Once tuned rokbooster will speed up your site so it's worth the effort.

      Regards, Mark.

    • Hi,
It makes sense to use Rokbooster together with gzip and cache or just Rokbooster alone?

    • Thanks,

Yes, I have heard that Rokbooster needs to be modified, especialy as we have a number of extensions that work together on the site. Any idea how I could get this done, don't think I can tackle such a task.

    • Edin & Leon J - You can use rokbooster with gzip and conservative cache (that is the best combination). You need to try rokbooster and see if it has any adverse affects - if it does you need to consult the documentation to learn how to add exclusions to the settings for the affected extensions. Sorry but we can't tune rokbooster for you within the scope of this support forum.
