    What is this Category for..........

Posted 8 years 2 weeks ago
    • I like reading the topics here, but what is this category for?

I keep seeing Template specific questions, questions about Gantry, questions about extensions. Why are they posted here? They all have their specific Forum. That is where these questions should be posted, not here.

Posting these questions in this forum makes it more difficult for others to find answers to problems/questions they may have.

I for one, ALWAYS try to find answers to questions/problems that I may have by SEARCHING the forums FIRST!. By posting in the wrong forums it makes it more difficult to find answers to what I am searching for.

Please, RT, when people post here for things that are specific to a template, extension, or Gantry, please move these post to the appropriate forum, and let the user know that they püosted in the wrong forum (I know, this is something that never ends).

For all users, PLEASE post in the appropriate forum so that the RT Team does not have to move all these post and so have more time to help others (and work on the Templates).

GENERAL - means something in general, not how can I change the header or text size for a particle. It does not mean "How to recreate a template", General means things that are associated with all Templates, Extensions, Joomla, or whatever. Things like "sharing custom html between templates", "different logos for different pages", "google page speed insights", not "Problems after upgrade to Gantry 5.*.*"

Please post in the appropriate forums, it does not only help me, but will help you also if you search for answer before posting every little thing that you have. I have been here for over 7 years, and take a look at the number of posts that I have made, it is not much. The reason is that I first search before I ask, and so far I have almost always found answers without having to post. However this is only possible when users post in the correct forum.

Thanks everyone/anyone for taking the time to read this, hopefully you will think about this before you post in the wrong forum ;).

    • Yes members should post in the appropriate template forum in most instances. But understand that we have no control over where members choose to raise their topic and it doesn't matter how often we point this out members will still do this. Wherever we do spot this we will often move the topic to a more appropriate forum. But also understand to post in this forum does NOT require an active subscription which is why again some members post here because they don't have access to the appropriate forum and we can't then move the topic because they wouldn't be able to see our reply.

This forum should be use for "general" questions like "how could I speed my site up" or "anyone recommend a good security product" i.e. a question that is independent of template, extension, or CMS platform.

Also bear in mind that it's not only RT moderators that have views, the forum is a community and we encourage members to help each other, a more "general" forum (not dependent upon a particular subscription) facilitates this.

So, despite everyones best intentions, members will continue to post in the wrong forums and we (RT) will do out best to move the topics wherever this is possible - but we don't live in a perfect world so don't expect perfection.

      Regards, Mark.

    • Please search forums before posting. Please make sure your post includes the version of the CMS you are using and a link to the problem. Annotations on screenshots can also be helpful to explain problems/goals. Please use the "secure" tab for confidential information.
