    • Hey there...

I have made many sites over the years. From Notepad, Dream Weaver and up the line, and eventually to joomla.
I always thought that joomla was the best, and most secure, and now there are quite a few other options out there, so my question for you guys is:

Why do you choose to work with Word Press or Grav to build a website? Simplicity?

      Thank you for your responses!

    • I started with Joomla as well but migrated to Wordpress with all my clients. For me its:
      - speed
      - simplicity
      - detailed documentation and code examples

    • Hi Jeff
Like you used Dreamweaver and other systems beforehand!
And then I found Joomla in it's early days.
Back then there was a choice between Drupal and Joomla... I didn't get on with Drupal - too techy for me!
I joined RocketTheme at the same time to get templates and support....
In those days WordPress was really used by people just for blogging..
And then suddenly Wordpress turned into a similar platform to Joomla and things changed.
At the time we were building sites in Joomla and we were asked to look at taking over an existing site and converting it to a new platform.
We decided to give WordPress a try.
What we found was that Wordpress had a lot more free plugins than Joomla which meant it was more cost effective.
Around this time RocketTheme were also developing their Wordpress themes and adapting their Joomla addons to work with Wordpress.
      Things got very exciting!
We found that Gantry and the RT Wordpress themes blended in with Wordpress really well.
So we ended up moving some of our sites to WordPress.
And eventually all our sites to WordPress.
We now only use Wordpress and look after circa 20 websites of differing sizes.
We also recently changed our server company (we are UK based) to a great UK server company who provide excellent support for Wordpres which has also made life much easier
Now I haven't used Joomla for a long time and cannot give an opinion about using it - so take this mainly as a comment about using Wordpress!

      Best wishes

      Andrew

    • Great thread!
Just to add to something Bigfly just wrote
We have one Wordpress site which is in German and English
Wordpress has plugins which help with this.
We actually moved the site from Joomla to WP a couple of years ago.
I would say to be honest it's 50/50 whether it is better in Joomla or WP.
It has events on it which people can book and in some ways Joomla was a little easier.
But now I am used to working with WP on it.
And I do save money with plugins using Wordpress
By the way a very useful site for Wordpress plugins

    • I started with Joomla 1.5 and always had used it for my websites. Then, a couple of years ago, when Joomla went "frozen" waiting for J4 version, I moved to GRAV. From then on I never went back to other CMS. GRAV and GANTRY are the perfect combo to build fast and versatile websites, from blog to e-commerce
