Can someone explain the discord regarding Joomla and developers wanting $$

I have heard broken pieces of conversations about some discord between the core Joomla developers and those wishing to charge money for modules etc. Could someone explain what this is all about?

LOL no worries,, I dont think anyone wants to open up old scars anyways,,,, but it is good to ask,, its the only way to know,,, or else,, how would you know??

If I can't find something on a site I use Google to get to it: for example
Typing this into the google search
gpl commercial components site:rockettheme.com
I get most of the threads on this site about gpl and commercial components. It won't give me the results for some of the site that is locked down to certain membership levels, but it is a good start.
