User only access

    • I am hosting info on my site for an association. I need to be able to make a "members only" Component front page so when the user clicks Members section it will ask for a user name and password.

I have a form that the user completes that sends me their info so I can manually cross reference the members list for the affiliated association.

So how do i set this up? And is there anyway to import the excel file and it automatically validates the user and sends them a unique password?

      Thanks,

    • What are you planning on using, J1.0.x or J1.5.x?

    • There are a couple of ways to do this:

      1) set any content that you want to viewed by members only to "Registered" rather than "Public".

      2) Use a 3rd party extension such as JACL .

Okay thanks, I knew how to do the registered one for just the join database option. However I want to be able to have like 4 different organizations access only their material. So I would have like 4 different groups, with 4 different pages. of private info So once they join they would check mark with organization they belong to and could access only their organizations stuff and not the other organizations. Also with that i want something that the administrator has to approve before they can view.

      Thanks for your help,

    • Hi Brandon,

I believe JACL can do what you need, and I believe solutions are also available at joomsuite.com and at jxtended.com, Andrew Eddie had an extension last I checked. Those last two are J1.5 only.

Also, I should point out that the JACL plugin linked to by Roland (thanks biker dude :) ), extends the functionality of the JACL component, which Ninjoomla does not develop. It will not handle groups beyond the normal Joomla user groups without JACLplus. The JACLplus component can be purchased at byostech.com.

Be sure to ask the developers of those extensions first... have them clarify whether the extension will really do exactly what you want first as I believe they cost quite a bit.

      Good luck :)
