I think simplicity is the key, but a news site is quite complicated under the hook; look at any major news site and it almost looks too easy...spacial design is complex, though.

And the color-coordinated sections that change text logo color, menu item color, read more color, et al, is nice.
Sure, I could style user 1 to be red and use it for my featured sports article on the home page, then rotate it out as time permits and try to manage all the other featured articles, but when if you are able to bring in RSS feeds as content items/articles, then it could become difficult to manage quite quickly.
But I chose the Teline II because of the color-coding and the news rotator myself.

I just have to create a new article, save it, and the template news system does the rest...write it and forget it.
