    Dreamweaver Question

Posted 16 years 10 months ago
    • Guys, I'm thinking of getting the Dreamweaver. Will this be of any help if I want to use joomla based websites?
Will I at least be able to use it like Adobe Fireworks?

      Best,
      Hugh

    • I couldn't build Joomla sites without it! When you want to find a piece of code you can search the whole site, modify it and upload it using Dreamweaver.

How else would you edit the css files? Dreamweaver gives you a popup list of all style options.

    • I just edit them using the tools my host provides but I'd like to improve on my own skills.

    • Its always nice to have a coding specific tool at hand, they generally come with features that make laborious tasks...well not that laborious :)

For Mac users, I recommend TextMate macromates.com/

    • Thanks James! I'm getting a Mac so that will help.

OK. Let's say I have unlimited resources to buy whatever is useful to build web sites.

I'm getting Fireworks and Dreamweaver. Also, I'm getting InDesign for making business presentations. Apparently I can use InDesign together with Dreamweaver to build web sites as well. That sounds interesting.

      What else would you get?

      Adobe Photoshop® CS3 Extended ?
      Adobe Illustrator® CS3 ?
      Adobe Flash® CS3 Professional ?
      Adobe After Effects® CS3 Professional ?

    • TextWrangler (at home) and BBEdit (at work) get more use than Dreamweaver. My most used tools are:
TextWrangler, Fireworks, and Transmit (a great ftp client).

I do get some use of Dreamweaver. For example, if I have to incorporate tabular data, Dreamweaver is much faster than using TextWrangler and much more user friendly than using any of the Joomla rich text editors.

    • for CSS/JAVASCRIPT/HTML use either notepad, a programmers notepad or get aptana.

Dreamweaver is good for design stuff ONLY i.e styles

or if you are into quick php dev work u could use phpProfessional2006-2008 (I love this one) or phpEdit,

DW should be ur last opt!

Don't you have a community to build, sir? :) The troops are getting restless over there. :) Full beta this year?

    • I think it's a matter of comfort. Essentially all of these editors do the same thing, some make certain tasks easier than others, that's why you should not be bound to one editor.

For example: I have Photoshop and Fireworks, because they both have certain features that I need, and these features are not mutually shared on both programs, so instead of limiting myself by choosing one, I have both and I'm happy.

My opinion is that Dreamweaver is a great program. There are a bunch of cool Joomla extensions for DW that allow you to build Joomla templates and what not, so you definitely won't be wasting money if you buy it...
