The markedshare between CB and other "communitybuilding components is - at best - 100:1" ......... so to build a template that would only work for the small markedshare (joomwhatever) and not for the big one (CB), would be quite silly.

to be honest and after seeing jomsocail i started to hate cb .. but u have a point of course.. cb is free .. and alot of ppl are using it .. including me in the past .. and now its on the way not allowing us to have a nice template of jomsocial
i hope it becomes commercial too :cheesy:

I'm always looking for the best - and it's not to highjack this thread - and it's most surely NOT ment to be rude, but what is it you like better about joomsocial? Just the main points compared to CB

This is kind of WAY off the topic of Mr. Miller, but here is my take on JomSocial.
First of All, I wouldn't buy CB or anything associated with it. It actually may be a nice tool, and be nice to use for Me, and my sites, but Im not in this business for me and my sites, I am in the business to provide other people with quality, secure, stylish Joomla Sites that are easy to use by the General Public.
MySpace and Facebook do not give training sessions on how to use it, No one else has to explain, explain, and explain how to use a simple tool like CB. This should be the first key that CB is great.. but not for the masses... yes as someone else said it is 100:1 right now CB:everyone else, but JomSocial has only been out for a few months, and the support is slowly growing when people get in and use it.
JomSocial is something that just makes since, and everything is tied together where you can Install it, configure its basics, and hand it over to the Site owner, and its very easily taken over with out a ton of training for someone to use it.
Most everyone in the real world looks at CB on the front end and doesnt really understand why everything is in tabs... or why there are different things here and there and wherever the site owner wants to put them.
JomSocial puts it all together and Make since of a Social Community, Sense that all the other big boys out there have paved the way with.
Downfall... customizing it to fit in your template.. But I try my best..

J!eremy: thanks for the explanation! I follow you on 100% on the explanation-thing. We have huge site where users add listings in Moset Tree............ and you (probably) just would not believe HOW many times people expect to be able to edit their Moset Tree listing in their profile and vice versa.
Actually, the main reason for us to use CB now, is that we're using the Subs payment system. I've been one of the beta testers for a year now. As we have a membership site, we need to be able to control access and payments.
I haven't looked more than 10-15 minutes at the Jomsocial demo but it seems to me that neither membership payments nor Moset Tree are integrated, right?
I will most definately try JomSocial - at least - on our testsites.

Yepper... They are going full bore with JomSocial. Plans to API into Facebook, adding Chat capabilities with your friends, but there is one available
