Nope, this is not the first one. Last year this time I recall the template being late, I think it was on the second of the month. But yes they are human. I've tried throwing rocks (not big ones) at them to test to make sure they are human, but the drive from New Mexico to Colorado is long in a car, so you can imagine trying to throw rocks in that general direction that distance - you tend to miss and fall short.
