Good luck, i wait since january and gantry release. Hopefully there will be one at some time but then, please without fusion menu, it sucks when you browse a site with huge information etc.
3 level Split menu like in somaxiom is the best way to browse a site. While you have fusion menu, you can make great things, but you loose the overview as you have to go everytime again to the dropdowns etc.
But this will be a difficult step as i guess. Cause if you would like to use phpbb template in addition for such a site, you are lost as there is no split menu support. Maybe this is the reason why they haven been such a template released yet. Dont understand as the interest in a news/magazine/richcontent template is huge. For now i would suggest to use somaxiom, im trying to get my way through this one.

    • Retired, but build and run websites for organisations of school leaders and others - e.g. http://www.icponline.org, http://www.aspa.asn.au, http://www.appa.asn.au

    • If you use the splitmenu version of the menu system, does that get closer to what you want - with the parent menu items at the top and the child items down one side of the screen?

I prefer the Fusion menu system because it does not permanently use up valuable screen space (made smaller by the 960 pixel limit of the Gantry system).

Could not disagree more. Like you I am waiting for another great news site, but the dropdown menu is the way to go. The menu on Somaxiom is so non-functional for my purposes.

This is the Rocket Theme conundrum...they are desiging templates for 1000 people who all want 1000 different things in a site.

    • Omnicron is an excellent release, as have been the last 3 templates, which prompted me to finally renew after almost a year away.

I agree, a news template would be an excellent addition, with less padding, smaller titles, smaller module fonts, and a clean crisp layout... with lots of white and some RT style and colour highlights flair of course :) A slight modification to position widths to easily accept Adsense size formats would also be a boon... just a little wish list :)

The possibilities of adaptation of a slick news template to many different purposes and site types is endless, including business, technical, government and other information based sites.

Cheers guys, I look forward to the next release... on the 2'nd - aussie time :)

Exactly, thats where i would like to go ;-)John Hodgkinson wrote:

Fusion menu IS very powerful, thats true. But it always depends for which kind if site.

      .
Honestly, i didnt came across a great news/magazine (in my case travel portal) website which uses such dropdowns. Most of them have parent and submenu navigation.

Omnicron menu seems to be jailed into the design. Dont know what happens if you need more parent items then those available at the moment.

Its great to see other members also looking for such kind of template, maybe RT will take care of this with next template.

    • To add something here, I did notice that if you turn off the logo in Omnicron, the menu spans the entire site. That gives you MUCH more room.

    • Try with the menu in the top-a position, and the logo in header-a.

    • Thanks for that hint guys! Ill try some new templates like zephyr as i have to stick to fusion menu if i want to use phpbb3 integration.
So therefore i will take a look on how to get a second dropdown menu below the fusion menu. Guess i will create a new module position and publish there a new menu. Sounds easy but we will see ;-)
Anyway, still look forward to a great mag/news/travelportal template ;-)

      NICE!

Hmmmm, perhaps this is what mr. Miller has been up to? (besides changing the name of this thread!)
