    • With phasing out of Drupal templates I wonder will Magento be next,??? especially seeing the latest Joomla template probably competes against their own products...an interesting business model I must say.

This would bring even more focus back to where it belongs by the team.....

      Yes im greedy....shoot me...

    • I don't think that joomla-based cart/shopping systems really compete with Magento. Magento is a full-fledged medium-to-high traffic e-commerce solution. Joomla carts are without question for smaller scale solutions. Also doing e-commerce friendly designs for Joomla makes it an easy transition for the Magento version :)

    • "I dont think?"......interesting.!
So I guess the last comment means the next Magento will be Halycon huh,? seeing the most recent template converted is Mercado.
I got no beef about ecwid, have seen some great things with it and really for my clients thats all Im ever gonna need. tired of VM and K2 solutions...Just seems weird you put a lot of time into that (ecwid) when it really does the same thing as Magento.....sells stuff.....haha.
      Cheers!

    • ok people, let's keep this on topic please....

I personally think the critics or talk around the design and flexibility of the templates is right on the topic —

Re: Hmm...I wonder what the RocketTheme team has been up to?

This is the main products deliver by Rocket with great succes for a long time and need to be discuss.

I’m trying for some time now to express and suggest methods and directions that appear important (to me) to improved the design and flexibilty of Rocket templates and all that completely free of charge.
      :)

As a designer for more than 25 years, I find the newest crop of templates relatively light in appeal with functionality missing some kind of direction and design rules.
      (My personal impression)

My only demands or suggestion for the Rocket Team will be to open a forum room or another type of online interaction tool where you can received the comments and suggestion from your trusted users only for the design and functionality of your templates. I will see a format with one suggestion by post with possibility for all users to comment and the ability to classified the priority of the suggestion. (A little bit like the JED and stars system) — The beauty of that system will be for the Rocket Dev to really have the pulse on what really matter to their customers and freely get their advise...

      Is that cool ! :cheesy:

      Patrick,

Rockettheme already has that. It is called the Developer Lounge where developer level Rockettheme members can voice their "professional" opinions.

Yes it is cool! As a developer with 25 years experience you should consider joining at the developer level to contribute your thoughts there with the other professional web developers.

    • Here is my two cents. Magento is an ultra professional solution which for the most part is made for sites that want nothing more than product presentation and shopping. It does two main things better, currently, than Ecwid. 1. the SEO / SEF is without question better at this point. 2. It has the ability to do great product reviews for each product other than Facebook.

With that said Ecwid does many things better than Magento. For 1. It has amazing Facebook integration - shopping and promoting your store on Facebook is priceless. 2. it has the ability to put its HTMl almost anywhere giving a fully functional store in moments. 3. it is Ecwid server side based so everything stays with and is protected by Ecwid itself. 4. I just made a ridiculously cool plugin that works with Acymailing to list various products in emails that can be viewed on the internet, iphone, ipad, or cell phone with ease. 5. you don't have to update anything as it updates itself.

Personally, for RT to create solutions for both is simply smart on their parts. As ecwid becomes better and fixes the SEO / SEF thing they will be major players in the Joomla / WP arena

    • Really interesting xtianus — I will take a look at Ecwid.

To be a part of the Developer Joomla Club or the Joomla Club
      — New members can only join upon invitation of a group leader.

I didn’t find that information advertise in any way, other than the User Control Panel Tabs Usergroups... Not really easy for somebody that want to participate...

Well, I will be please to participate, waiting for an invitation...

Good day to all Rocket People.

Xtianus, thank you for the compare/contrast information about Ecwid and Magento. I will be keeping an eye out for a chance to try using Ecwid. Thanks!

    • Patrick,

That verbiage is the standard/default verbiage for group descriptions that comes with phpBB forum software.

You don't need an invitation for access to those forums, it is automatic when you subscribe at those levels.

OK - I invite you to join the Joomla Developer club and hang out with me in the comfy Developer Lounge - How's that?
