May i add an image only menu?

I want to add an image only menu to my site? How may i do it? I tried to add an image only module by creating a custom module which contained an image and hyperlinked this image to the menu item i want to direct. But in this case i have to retain the menu item in text form also.
Any solution?

I have found a solution to this problem, follow these steps
1. I created a menu item which i want to use in the form of image menu in the text form.
2. Then created a custom module containing the image and hypelinked it with the text menu item.
3. Then i moved the respective menu item in text form to another menu which i have not published.

I am giving this idea a good effort but I can't quite get it. Can you elaborate? how are you hyperlinking to a menu item?
This is what I've done so far
-make a menu that I do not intend to publish
-make a menu item in the menu that I want to use
-made a image that is intended to go in the new menu
Where do I go from here?
