Web 2.0 --- Future developments planned?

Posted 16 years 6 months ago
    • First off I'm not complaining, this is by far the best Joomla Club around and I belong to three of them.

I'd just like to know if there are plans to design a few Web 2.0 designs in the near future.

Thanks and keep up the good work!

    • What in your opinion constitutes a web 2.0 design? it's a term that's slung around a lot, but what does it mean to you?

    • Hey thanks for the quick response Andy, it's always a pleasure.

You are correct and I should have been more specific as there is a wide range of opinion on what Web 2.0 means/used for.

When I talk about Web 2.0 design I'm talking about a more wide open design approach. Instead of having a ton of information staring at you - everything is bigger and less of it so you can have more control over where you want your users to go and easier for them to find what they are looking for. I also think of it as more graphical, i.e. bigger buttons for navigation (not just the menu bar). Lots of color in the design, not just strict color themes.

I guess it's hard for me to put into words - it's more of the impression I get when I see a website. You've probably seen this or already read this but this gives a good explanation as to what Web 2.0 means to me:

    • Ya know, I guess you could say that Joomla is Web 2.0 with it's structure. But when I think of Web 2.0 - it's the design/look of the site.

I absolutely hate going to sites, and won't buy from online stores, if I go there and they have just a ton of crap on their pages. Maybe it's just my taste, but I like the more simple look but graphically impressive with the quality.

And don't get me wrong, I like just about every template you guys put out and can always find a way to make them work with one of my clients. I was just curious as to what you guys have planned in the near future.

    • Hmm... I hear what your saying, the problem we face is that a lot of the web 2.0 ideas relate directly to the content, rather than the design itself. Anyway, we'll certainly take your thoughts into consideration for future designs. cheers!

    • I think "customization by the user" instead of the admin behind the site. TerranTribune was a scratch on the surface... :)

I also think of interactive web apps, not Flash though :P

That's a pretty good point, I never thought if it that way. I guess sometimes I rely on what you guys design and use it to tweak around since I'm not a true graphic designer. But your point makes perfect sense.

You guys do a very good job of designing a template that can easily be turned into what I'm talking about - like Prim said I have used TerranTribune for exactly what it was setup as: www.ncwsa.com and am in the process of customizing it (beginning stages) of a more, IMO, Web 2.0 look with www.thatcomputerdudellc.com/demo/joomla/replicant2/

Thanks again for your time Andy, cheers!
