    Screen resolution...

    Posted 16 years 4 months ago
    • Does anyone know how to load a template with different dimensions based on the users screen resolution setting? Therefore, lower resolution browsers see the template in the same proportions as higher resolution browsers??

      Thank you in adavance for your help-

    • Ok ty. Maybe I didn't phrase my question correctly but what is happening is on my screen my site looks great (even if I do say so myself :) however when I go to my friend's house we have to scroll left and right to see the whole site... or does he just have a ghetto screen? :)

      Thanks again

      If it helps the website is www.thelistof.com

    • "or does he just have a ghetto screen?"

      He probably does. Go get him a 22" widescreen for him and the problem is solved :D ;)

    • I'd like a 22" screen as well, but then I'd have to get a bigger desk, a bigger room to put it in, and so on!

      OK, one solution would be to set the template width to narrower than most people's screens (most use a 1024 pixel wide screen, except for some who use netbooks). Example, set it to 950 pixels wide.

      Second solution: set it to be "fluid" width.

      How you do either of those depends on the template that you are using and whether you are using J1.0 or J1.5. Sometimes, it is in the template options screen. In one of my sites using J1.5 and the Chromatophore template, I put the following line before the body section at the top of template.css:

      .wrapper { width: 95% !important; }

      You can change the 95% to whatever you prefer. (That solution was given to me by the people in these RT forums - great bunch).

      Does that help?
