    Any good form extension?

Posted 16 years 3 months ago
    • Hello,
Just wondering if any body can suggest a good form extension.

I tried out Jforms last night and it works well and is very easy to use. A little bugs here and there and not bad. The only thing is that it is still in beta phase.

A friend recommended facileforms but I found out that I've been having a hard time running the extenstion, probably because it is still native for 1.0

I also tried out Chronoforms but thought it was too complex compared to Jforms...

Anyways, if there is an extension that you would suggest, I'm all ears! Just want to hear other opinions.

      Peace,
      KO

    • Chronoforms is what I use - yes, it may be a bit more complex - but nothing allows you to deploy better forms.

    • ragdata thanks...

Chronoforms sounds good but I noticed that it only works for roman characters. Thai, Chinese, and other characters appear to not be encoded well. Is it just me or the form?

      Well, thanks for the suggestion.

    • If you want to work/manipulate the data and not in need of just a form engine to email the fields, perhaps take a look at Fabrik...much, MUCH more powerful than a simple form engine.

    • Terp,

You've been recommending that for quite some time now.

One of these days I'm gonna take a look at...

      Does it handle double-byte characters?

    • JEM,

Thanks for the recommendation. Sounds promising but I got to check it out.

I just tried out ArtForms, very easy to use but when I use non-roman characters its gets fizzled up.

      Terp,

I'll take a look at it and thank you!

    • Good luck.

FYI, these are from an old thread on the subject:

Download the trial of RS!Form or RS!Form Pro.

Don't know if either has the exact functionality you're looking for.

But once once you register, you can use their forum.

Their support ticket system is really good, even for trial users.

(I'm sure they would be able to tell you how to do what you want or help with the code.)

Along with the usual setup support questions I had, I got tons of help setting up multilingual forms.

Lots of info on their forum, too.

      Cheers!

My number one priority when I first started looking for a contact form component was the ability to have forms in languages besides English, in particular mine had to be in Japanese.

I can't tell you how many components I downloaded, installed and configured only to find at some point even though most said they could handle Japanese, they couldn't.

From what I saw, they handles other languages well, just not Asian characters.

I'm almost sure I gave Breezing and ChronoForms a shot, though I can't say for sure.

In the end, RS!Form was the only one that could handle Japanese.

BEST features in RS!Forms so far:

The ability to copy forms, make one form and if you need one that varies slightly, you can just copy it. Such a great feature when you're making several forms that each need to be customized.

The ability to make a menu item for a form, or place it in an Article.

I am a data guy and had a need for a component that could allow users to enter data, then filter/query these data and display the records in a styled table, so Fabrik quickly became my favorite component...almost nothing it can't do. :)

As for the double-byte, good question...I believe so, but will check. Russian requires double byte, right? If so, then it does, as I have seen some Russian translations floating around and people using it for their Russian and Chinese sites....

Yea, take it for a test drive...amazing how many features are packed in there...from cascading dropdowns to js injected form actions to complex db joins and calculations and filtering and googlemapping and charting and ajax validations and and and and i could go on all night. ;)

    • Hello,
Thanks for this discussion. I was just coming in here to ask about which form generators to use with my Rocket Theme.

From what I can tell, it seems that Fabrik is a great choice. I just have two small concerns:
      1. Fabrik is still in RC stage. Can anyone report on whether Fabrik RC is good enough for a "real" site?
      2. I read that Fabrik had conflicts with Rocket Theme templates. Is this just with older templates?

I'm using Meridian, by the way, and I really like it!

      Thanks,
      Matthew
