Having issues opening a RT PSD?

    • I found a quick (and makeshift) fix for Photoshop CS2 users.

You'll have to grab the 30-day trial of Fireworks still, but if you're more versed in using Photoshop CS2 like me, it's worth it.

Open the PNG file from this site in Fireworks for your respective theme.

Then go to File > Export.

      Then select Photoshop .PSD.

Before you hit ok though, click on the drop-down menu below it that says Settings.

Click on Maintain Fireworks Appearance, then Save.

Since Adobe bought out Macromedia and Fireworks hasn't had a substantial update since MX, I'm guessing that's why it can't handle PSD's properly for CS2. This work-around will allow you to more or less work with the layout in Photoshop CS2 though. It breaks it down to the basics, paths (slices which you won't be able to use), Rectangles, Bitmaps (the actual images, like the logo), and Text. You'll be able to interact with the text but it won't be labeled right out of the box.

I hope this helps some of you out there, I know I really needed to find a fix since I haven't toyed with Fireworks 1.5 or 2.0

    • On a side note, someone posted elsewhere on the forum that Photoshop WILL indeed open up the original PSD's exported from FW but it can take upwards of 5 minutes. Once it does open, just re-save and then open and it will be nearly instantaneous
