Modifying template but images are to big!

Posted 18 years 4 months ago
    • For some reason when ever I try to mod a templates images in either photoshop or fireworks the finished image is about 2500kb bigger then the original. Your probably saying big deal. Well when you have about 25 images that is a lot of memory. Its not so much the server space then it is the long load time. Does anyone know how Andy get his images to save small like 500kb. Do you compress or export specially please tell.

    • use fireworks, on the right pane "optimise" .. twiddle with the settings before you "export"(as opposed to 'save') your images

    • Andy's images are probably a lot smaller in file size that the 500k you mentioned, Chris.

Check the DPI. Save the image to 72 DPI. Computer screens show an image at 72 DPI. It doesn't need to be any higher.

And use the middle 'medium' setting in JPG to compress the file.

    • If you use Photoshop, I find that converting to indexed colour then use "save for web" and save as a .GIF gives good results.

    • Ah thanks guys all of your suggestions worked perfectly. I got the best result when compressing the dpi and saving for web.
