Ideal size for a graphic image behind template

  • Ideal size for a graphic image behind template

    Posted 15 years 11 months ago
    • I'm trying to put a graphic image behind my template. However, I dont know the optimized size or dimensions for such a file. I will be replacing the page-bg.PNG file. Also, I'm only working with Photoshop, I don't have fireworks yet. I think I can only output PNG-24 files.

      Any recommendations on size, width, height and procedures is greatly appreciated.

    • You can go in for image with repeat-x as having a proper background image with no-repeat can vary some time with different screen resolutions :)
    • Quick tips::
      1) Clear your browser cache if changes dont reflect
      2) Provide link to your site to help us help you better
      3) Use in firebug

    • Hey Amandeep, how are you today, thanks once again for your reply. I tried replacing that PNG image after what you had said. I didnt like the look. It was an image file, not a graphic file. So I looked around, checked out some examples, and I think some sort of graphic image might look better. Anyway, with your post above I'm not understanding what your saying.

      I'm trying to optimize the file first. What are the recommended dimensions ? for the fastest load of the front page. I'm assuming that PNG is the best file type. But should it be at 1800x 1200 ?
      This is what I'm not sure of.

      Lastly, I'm only working with Photoshop CS and Illustrator CS, they're both old versions.

      Thanks again my friend. I think Im starting to get to know ya.

      By the way, do you have websites that I can look at ?

      Ok, thanks for your time

    • Like in solarsentinel template, You can see the image here in this directory which is 20*175 and has been given repeat-x to get it repeating with x-axis

      body.bg-grey #page-bg {template.css (line 49)
      background:#CCCCCC url(../images/background/grey/page-bg.png) repeat-x scroll 0 0;
      }

    • I'm sorry my friend but I dont understand your instructions. I looked at solarsentinel and its just a grey background. I could just change the color of my background and get a similiar effect. However, I'm trying to apply some sort of graphic image (see links for examples).

      Here's a couple links to what I'm trying to do. Look at
      the graphics behind the templates.

      www.margaritaville.com/
      www.davematthewsband.com/

      So in my understanding I could just build that image in Photoshop or Illustrator and export a PNG file right ? But I dont know what size I should export.

      Thanks my friend

    • If you are looking for a background image like Refraction or Replicantv2 has, those hover around 1300px by 800px give or take 100px on each dimension.

      As for what Aman posted, yes, the repeating background for SolarSentinel is what's used. It's a standard gradient that is only about 25px wide and then repeated across the top of the template by using "repeat-x" like Aman mentioned. If you decide to use a large image, you may not want it to repeat like this.

    • Thanks Ben, I wound up using a PNG file at around 1920x1640. Thanks to Amandeep again as well.
