December 2006 Site of the Month

Posted 18 years 4 months ago
    • Site of the Month for December 2006 has been awarded to www.churchwiz.com .

The site began with the Versatility II template before getting stripped down to almost nothing. There is a lot of colour in there by default but site owner Philip Smith needed to have a look with a lot of white space. He ended up just taking the bare bones of the Versatility II template and re-working it into this design. The blue pin striping you see at the top of the site also comes from Mobius!

The menu system used is the supersucker system but Philip re-did the CSS and graphics completely so it has the effect that the buttons are sitting up on top of the row instead of sitting within the row. Other than that, very little work was done with the original source image.

Philip originally came across RT when he was searching for some high quality Joomla templates. At first he didn't want to spend that much money and had already invested in some themes from another club. Coincidentally, he ran into a colleague a few days later who gave RT and Andy's personal support in the forums a great review. So he changed his mind and signed up. What a clever chap!

Well done Philip. Take the bow and a big round of applause.

    • Great site and good luck with the business!

One thing - in Firefox (latest), when i go to this page Great Church Website Features and click on a module name for more information, nothing happens (well, the screen jumps to the top of the page).
      Just FYI.

      Cheers!

    • It is a very nice looking website. But how can it be using a RT template? I don't believe it is running on Joomla!

    • You're absolutely right :-[

When the site was first nominated it was running on a Joomla installation using the original RT template which I had modified. Since being nominated, I had moved the site over to another CMS and ported my RT theme work with the other system.

However, as the grass isn't quite as green with the new CMS as I had hoped it would be, I am currently working on transferring the site back to Joomla. Hope that explains :)

    • Just to clarify. The rules don't actually state the site has to be running Joomla.
      1. Only one site submission per month, per user
      2. All submissions must be posted in the monthly thread in General Discussion by the 22nd of each month
      3. Site must use an RTTC template
      4. Decision of the judges (i.e. moderators and Andy) is final

However, we' d really like the sites to be running Joomla and a decision will be made soon if this is to be included in the rules. Saying this, Philip did inform us before the result was announced that he had moved the site to another system. He also told us that he was moving it back to Joomla.

    • Well, a little controversy never hurts... What would Donald Trump say?

Nice clean site though. Fix the feature links (or just add the content that goes behind them).

      Nice job.

    • Oh, that's a classic - even the Church Lady would give you a break on that one I suppose. ;)
