I've been researching the issue of background music in Joomla on and off for several weeks now. It seems like there is no good solution for those of us that want to build a site that has music that keeps playing in the background while a user navigates the site (like so many flash sites can do).
The two solutions being bandied around are as follows:
1. Use one of the many mp3 player modules. Unfortunately, the music will stop when the user navigates to a new page (or worse restart if it is on autoplay).
2. Load the player in a pop-up window. This is obviously not a great solution given that pop-ups are annoying and often get blocked.
Do a little Google research and you'll see that there are a large number of Joomla-philes out there that are looking for a solution to this. So my business case to Rocketthemes is to build a template that has an option to load a frame that can house a player which will not reload each time the user navigates or develop some sort of extension that can do this independent of the template.
I can guarantee that you'll earn yourselves a bunch of subscribers with just this innovation alone.
Anyway, that's my two cents as a happy Rockettheme evangelist.
Yeah, I've read through a lot of those posts and I may end up adding a few lines of html to one of my Rockettheme templates to get this to work.
What I was getting at though, is I think a Rockettheme's target market is DIY web designers who want a really sharp looking site but don't have the technical knowledge to build a template themselves. Adding a slick little "background music" on/off feature to the template manager GUI might attract a whole new segment of customers that are certainly struggling with this gap in Joomla and who do not have the ability/experience to add custom lines of html to their templates to get this to work.
Just a suggestion from an MBA student who just finished his marketing course. Actually, I have a marketing term paper to write and I haven't picked a topic yet...hmm.
