I am creating a site that contains some basic company "brochure" type info and I'd like understand the best way to organize this in Joomla using these themes.
Right now, I am using Sections and Categories to create the pages and then creating menu items using "List - Content Section" and "Table - Content Category" to create the simple, fairly static pages that are on the site. This works pretty well for main menu and submenu pages, but I get a nagging feeling that their is a much easier way to do it. Also, on the category pages, I get a message at the end saying "This Category is currently empty" that I'd rather not see.
I'd also really like to look at the underlying setup for the demo.rockettheme.com sites to see how it is done, but I don't think that it possible.
I apologize if this is a stupid question, but I am new to Joomla and really having fun with it and love the themes here. Thanks for any guidance!
Hi Kent, there's plenty of help here - more than most places, but it might be the time for you to crack the books and read up on the Basics of Joomla. This will get you going:
Like I was saying, there's loads of help here, but we can help you the best when you've got the basics down. BTW, no question is stupid, but you need to be in a little better place in order for the gang here to help get a grip on your particular challenge.
But,to answer your question, it seems to me that you don't have any Content created and assigned to a that Category. It kind of works in a hierarchical fashion.
Content inside a Category inside a Section.
The Joomla user manual will get you on the correct path. From there, there's plenty of help around.
I wouldn't be surprised if several folks will stop by to say "Howdy!"
Thanks a lot for the reply. This actually helps quite a bit and helped me understand what I was doing wrong.
Honestly, I printed the Joomla docs and read it all. It is does a good job of explaining all the parts, but I think a poor job of telling you how to use it. I am a little confused and intrigued all at once with this Joomla creature...
