Rocket Launcher and the MISSING installer -- ???

  • Rocket Launcher and the MISSING installer -- ???

    • Here's my sad story...

I've been trying to install the Rocket Launcher Moxy version and it just doesn't work.

I'm installing into a folder on my domain and will build the new site from there, as I've already got a functioning site that uses Joomla 1.0. I don't want to disturb that so that's why I'm using a sub-directory, and will switch over when the 1.5 site is finished.

So I viewed the Rocket Launcher video and followed FTP instructions to extract and FTP files into the sub-directory. Then, I've tried unsuccessfully to locate and launch the installer. It is not in the location the video claims it should be; and, in fact, it is nowhere I can find. All components and extensions made the trip just fine, but apparently no installer. I dragged the entire contents of the folder over, so that makes no sense.

If you've used the Rocket Launcher recently and understand this thing, I'd appreciate any help you can offer. What is the URL to activate the installer?

      Thanks.

      Jerry

    • I remember I had this once.
Somehow the folder "installation" was not created (I suspect due to a setting of the provider)
What I did was extracting the archive locally and then uploading just the the folder "installation" into the joomla root on the server ...

    • Hi,

The folder "installation" is there. But how do I access it is the trick. No URL string suggested works. All I get are Not Found errors.

      Thanks.

    • The install.php file is there as well?

And are you using an FTP Client Upload or are you using WebFTP?

I myself have use FileZilla and I have had problems in the past with issue's on uploads through the client... Some files tend to not be uploaded correctly or become corrupt at time of transfer. If that is the case I would upload a folder at a time instead of putting every file in the que, seems to work flawless that way for me.

Hope I was able to help

      For quick reference:

      NOTE!!!

The Rocket Launcher is for a fresh install ONLY.

It contains a complete version of the latest Joomla release, the template, and all the sample data you see in the demo. Whether or not you decide to install the sample data is up to you. If you want to replicate the demo site, use it, if you want a clean install of Joomla with the template applied, don’t use it.

You can not use the Rocket Launcher in an existing install of Joomla. If you already have an existing install of Joomla, you will need to apply the template file to it.

      Unzip the Rocket Launcher.

FTP the folder and its contents to, depending on your platform, public_html or httdocs

Alternately, you can upload the zipped RL package and extract it on your server through the control panel.

Before you start, you’ll need to create a database on your server.

Once you’ve uploaded the Rocket Launcher and created a database, browse to the folder,

      Ex: www.mysite.com/template_directory_name

You don't have to navigate to the installation folder, if Joomla hasn't been installed yet, it will navigate to the install directory automatically. (How cool is that?!)

Note: It's a really simple point, but don't be confused by the ' www.mysite.com/ ' replace 'mysite.com' with your site's URL, for example, here it would be www.rockettheme.com/template_directory_name

      The installation screen will appear.

      Screen 1:
      Choose language

      Screen 2:
      Pre-installation Check

      Screen 3:
      License

      Screen 4:
You’ll need the following info to make the database connection with Joomla:
      Host Name
Username (for the database you’ve created)
Password (for the database you’ve created)
Database Name (for the database you’ve created)

      Screen 5:
You can skip this and use an FTP client

      Screen6:
Site Name: This will appear in the title bar of your browser.
Your e-mail: the address you want to use to receive mail from the site
Password: this is for the admin login for Joomla, it can be different than the DB password.

      Install Sample Data?
If you want to replicate the site with all the sample content, click on ‘Install Sample Data’.
If you don’t want to install the sample data, click next, a prompt will appear confirming that you want to skip.

      Screen 7:
You’ll be prompted to delete or rename the installation directory.

Before you can view the site or login as administrator, you’ll need to browse to the directory in your FTP client or CP and do so.

      ______________________________

Also note if you are having trouble with the FTP process, you can try uploading the zipped Rocket Launcher and extracting on the server through your host's CP.

    • Thanks, Paul.

I'm using Filezilla and I wasn't aware of that problem. I can try another FTP client I suppose. Install.php is there.

Hoping that somebody knows the exact URL string that is needed to locate the installer, in case that's the issue here. If we get past today without that, I can use another FTP app and see how that goes.

replace ' www.mysite.com ' with your url, here it would be www.rockettheme.com

Replace 'joomla' with the name of the folder you have uploaded / extracted the Rocket Launcher files to.

If you've named it 'joomla' no need to change it, if you named it 'newsite' or 'test', change it accordingly.

Also, check the folder you uploaded the Rocket Launcher to, compare its content to the contents of the folder on your desktop.

Again, you might want to try extracting the RL on the server instead of FTP.

    • There is no specific URL for the install. You would just go to the domain that you are setting joomla up on and it will take you through the install process.

Like JEM said though make sure there is nothing else in the directory of this upload, because Joomla itself is included in it as well.

    • Thanks, Paul. It finally worked! I appreciate everyone's help.

      NOW, another question.

I was unaware that it was possible to migrate content from a 1.0 install to a new 1.5 install. My question is whether this has to take place ONLY while I'm in this installer, or can I do it later?

I'm on that particular screen in the installer and need to know what to do.

      Thanks again.
