header text strange, characters are different encoding?

    • In Vista, and FF 3.5.3, header text in all Rockettheme templates is strange characters replacing actual text. Text is OK in Vista and IE7. Even now, as I type this comment (I'm at a Vista OS machine), my text is not showing normally (so had to type it first in notepad). I don't see this problem on my Windows XP or Mac browsers, nor with Vista and IE7.

Anybody know why? Is this a FF bug? As soon as my clients upgrade their FF, I think they will be complaining...

I've seen this effect on every Vista OS on FF browser that I've checked.

    • Are you seeing this on your local site or the demo site?
Get the latest download of this from RT and try reinstalling on your site to see if the issue is still there.

    • Hi Joe, I was seeing this issue both on production sites and the rockettheme demo, just last week.

Interestingly, yesterday I reloaded the Vista OS on one of the Dell PCs here at work (using the reinstallation DVD). These machines are about 1 yr old and came with OS loaded. NOW, on this machine in which I reloaded the OS, and made NO changes to settings, all the text looks fine! I just ran over and checked one of the other Dell PCs and the text is still wrong. The sites that had this issue are unchanged (production sites) yet still the issue is gone on the PC with the newly reinstalled OS.

Can't explain it, but reloading the OS did certainly "fix" the issue here. As far as I know, both machines have had all MS updates, and yesterday the PC with the new OS installed about 53 updates, so I think both are current. Both are running FF 3.5.3.

Hate to think that reloading the OS is the ONLY fix, but it did clear up the issue here on this one PC. Hope this information is helpful to someone. If you have some ideas about why this would fix the issue, would love to try something less drastic to fix this issue. But, now it doesn't appear to be a bug w/joomla or the RT Template, does it?

    • It looks to be a "default" font issue in the browser.
Since it affects both browsers it looks to be a OS system font setting.
      Check this article out.
      See the section on fonts.
See what yours is set at on the broken computer in this section:
4.Select the new default font under Webpage font and then click OK to save the settings.
