Advice on moving content

- So this is not a specific topic for a theme but you guys have always been great so I figured I'd ask for some advice. I'm doing a brand new site for my wife and leaving all the "baggage" behind. I'd like to bring over the articles from the old site but leave everything else. Is there an efficient way to do this? I know I could export them and use a bulk importer from a delimited file or manipulate a sql dump and so on but I wanted to see if you guys had any ideas or tools you've run across to facilitate this. As always, all help and advice is greatly appreciated!

Build the site on a local host or in a sub folder or sub domain.
Since the module position and extensions vary from template to template and you'll have to move your content around, I suggest starting fresh.
