Lately I've been getting a lot of fake logins and logins from Russia. The fake logins often have something commercial in the e-mail address (like "This email address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it."), but the Russian logins just appear to be normal e-mails from Russia. There's nothing on my site to attract a Russian audience, and e-mail verification is required for verification.
I suppose the folks with the fake e-mail address hope it will show up in a list of users and improve their ranking, or attract a click from a legitimate site visitor. But what are the Russians getting out of it? Is anybody else seeing the same thing?
I was able to eliminate a lot of these with a nice little plug-in called "Registration Validator." If any of you folks are having the same problem, you might try it out.
