    • your system built links will change to whatever url you have the site on as joomla is using your actual site url as it sees it. e.g. joomla sees /joomla2 as your live url so if you move it to / then joomla will pick that up

links you have manually put in with the /joomla2 would need to be changed and there is probably something you can throw into .htaccess to make that easy but you'll have to do some digging for that or hope that there is a .htaccess whizz who can tell you quickly what to do ..

    • Sounds a 50/50 situation here damo !
So if I change the Joomla2 folder to Joomla over on my server- part of the links will work ?
And the rest that don't work- I will have to find them and re-link them again ?

    • what i would suggest doing first is creating a new directory at joomla3, copy everythind there and just make sure that the site links are changing to /joomla3/ before making any lasting move

    • first step yes. then make a copy of your database, call it something else and point the new site to the new database

this is a long way around doing something that will probably just work, but its just a way of making 100% sure and testing it first

    • "cough" but you are making backups on a regular basis (J-pack)?
And you have something like phpMyAdmin on your site ...

you can migrate your site with j-pack ...
or if you do it manually don't forget to update the right paths in the configuration.php ...

but overall if that sounds dangerous for you ...
... I would leave it as it is – before you mess up everything. (I did that once and it was really no fun)

perhaps your host can change the path to you site but even in that case you have to make changes to the configuration.php (at least var $log_path and var $tmp_path) and the .htaccess ....

    • that is another option

if you have a backup of your site and you are familiar with backing up and restoring

then just make the move - chances are it wont go wrong and if it does, just use the backup

move everything to the desired location and hey presto - it should work

i say should, becasue i dont know how your server is setup, potential issues with permissions and all that, but if you have a backup and you are familiar with restoring, then just move it .. see what happens.

if you have cpanel also, use file manager to move everything and if it doesn't seem to work, just use file mager to move it back. if it has worked on your move to /joomla3 - chances are extremley high that it will work when you move to /
