    • I have been asked to install a blogging component on one of my websites. I have not done this before. I have checked the JED at the Joomla site and found several possibilities. What is your favourite blogging component?

    • G'day John,

Honestly...None! All are lacking here or there.

Have you considered a WP Blog as a sub directory? blog.website then just use the RT WP Theme and style it like your main site.

Barring that K2 seems to fit for most.

      Just my 2 cents.

      Cheers,

      Rich

    • Thanks for that. I thought about the 'corePHP' WordPress Integration for Joomla 1.5 component that is available from corePHP - it's a commercial one.

    • I am liking K2 so far...supplanted MyBlog. :)

I also dumped JomComments for Jcomments, so between the two -K2 & jComments- I think you can create a decent blog, sir.

    • how about joomla?

honestly, i'm not joking. what do you really want your blog to do that joomla can not out of the box or with one fo the 100's of plugins or extensions that are blogging related?

dont get me wrong wordpress is excellent but if you are a joomla user looking at adding a blog to your site then why not just add a new section?

Nested categories, ACL/permissions to prohibit bloggers from posting in certain categories, comments, tags, recaptcha, videos, ajax, user/blogger pages, custom forms and fields, to name a few. ;)

    • You should try the JoomlaWorks plugin SuperBlogger. I was looking for a blogging component for a clients website, where the client wants to blog but has NO capabilities pertaining to admin functions. Although I still have to grant him access into the backend, blogging is simple via New Article. He simply chooses the Blog Section with the category of his choice that I pre-setup and he can write at will.

The only drawback thus far is no ability to post via email, as well as the author avatar does not pull from the user profile, you have to use the Gravatar.com service. For 10$, it works great in this situation.

sure - out of the box joomla doesn´t have a great deal of blogging ´features´, but my point is, to start a blog - joomla is more than capable ´as is´ to begin with

you can also have a lot of what you are after and while not everything, what you are after with that list, reads like a blogging platform rather than a blog

i am just trying to promote joomla as a blogging tool, mostly because it is actually quite successful as it - a blogging platform, yes, try something else for now, but i fancy that will change soon enough
