How do you keep spammers out of RT Forums?

  • How do you keep spammers out of RT Forums?

    • My question really is "are there spammers posting here?" I never see any 'buy a phone from me' or 'look here for hot girls'.

...but on a site about Joomla! that I help moderate, there are about 10 spam/ad posts a day. I ban usernames, but that's easy to work around for repeat offenders. What else can I do? This has to be the most annoying thing ever.

      Cheers,

      Mike

    • Best to have them validate their account.
If they don't get the e-mail they can't validate.

    • Yup, mandatory email verification for registration combined with captcha - visual and sometimes audio confirmation combination of letters/ numbers generated randomly - will bring to a halt spammers... or at least greatly reduce the tide.

I have a problem with spammers spamming Easy Book (Joomla guestbook) and although it has an admin option to enable captcha, for the life of me I cannot get it to work. But I digress.

Cheers and a pox on spammers.

I would say captcha is the best option - only if it works >:(
